I bought my car lowered, about 1". I was never told how it was lowered. Well, I have a clunk in the front end and I checked it out today on the lift... the front springs are loose.
So, seems like they were cut or heated. I also have the stock... ORIGINAL struts! 170,000 miles on them!
So, I would like all new struts and springs. I love the 1" drop, and I would like to keep it there as long as I can still run my 16" rims with 205/40 tires.
As far as struts go, if you want adjustables, most people go for either:
KYB AGX :: 4-way adjustable-very stiff-cheapest
Tokico Illuminas :: 5-way adjustable-easier on the tail bone than KYB
Koni :: Full range adjustability-somewhat pricey
Most people opt for the KYB's or Tokico's
As for Springs, if you wanna stay with the 1" drop, I'd suggest the Eibach's. All the other company's springs are a little more than a 1" drop. Usually around 1.5 inches.
If you don't mind going to a 1.5" drop, I'd suggest H&R, or Tein. You can usually pick either of those up pretty cheap, and most people seem to like em.
I currently am running Tokico Illuminas with H&R springs, and love it.
I used to run KYB AGX with Tein springs. I found the ride a little stiff, but still performed great.
There's plenty of choices out there. Do some research and get plenty of opinions from other owners. Then, make your decision on what's best for your needs.
Best of luck to ya!
Frank

I had pretty worn shocks & springs on my [sold] '89SC before I went the 'Eibach/Illumina 5 way adj.' route. Great on the highway and the track/auto-x but too punishing on the street for me, even at setting '1'.
At the risk of sounding vanilla, you could always go new OEM - they're comfortable yet firm & they'll last a long time too (as your original shocks/springs prove).
