Could someome tell me what all the numbers mean when they talk about mr2s.I bought a 1988 MR2.It has the 1.6 DOHC.Is that called a 4AGE or a 4AG?Whats the difference. Also what is the difference in the MK1 and the AW11. Could someone tell me the numbers that refer to my car?Heres some pics.

AW11 is the chassis.

MK1 or MKI or Mark 1 refers to the generation of the car.
That is the 1st generation made fro m'84 to '89

All MK1s are AW11.

DOHC is dual over head cams. It describes the head that is on the engine.

4AGE is the engine code for the regularly aspirated motor that is in the AW11s.
In 88 and 89 there were MK1s with a supercahrged engine that has a different engine code.

The car need some work so i am not sure if i am going to fix it.The motor knocks. My original intentions were rebuilding the motor with aftermarket pistons, rods, ect. But then i saw how much money i would have in a older car that will only do mid thirteens in a quatermile i see it is not worth it.If anyone lives near Delaware and wants it i will sell it for $500.00 obo.If anyone needs any parts off it let me know.
I think i am going to get a 93-98 Toyota Supra.Their 3.0 is a lot more capable at making horsepower than the MR2s 1.6.
