What BIGGER master cyl's fit the MKII

Has anyone used a brake master cyl from say a 4runner or SC400 in the MKII MR2. Im looking to upgrade to four piston front calipers and dual piston rears. I think I will need more volume when I do so. Any input is welcome.

I THINK that four pot caliper kits like rotora and wilwood were designed to work with the stock master cylinder.

ps- maybe a brake bias controller would be a good install as well

What kind of driving are you doing that you need to upgrade the brakes?

Hyde, Im going to be using the rotors and calipers from a MK4 supra. I will definatly be getting a balance controller aswell.

As to the events: there are several road race events per year within two-three hours driving distance of here. On every car I have ever owned including 3 MKII mr2's I have expereanced brake fade on two or three courses as well as some downhill sections on pulic roads. In the MR2 I have only had problems on the downhill with very long straits that have sharp curves at the end. After several of those long straits and then hard turns sometimes I even get smoke LOL.

Hyde your input is especially appriciated since you compete in similar events like hill climb etc. My plan is to use the larger rotors and calipers in conjunction with a street pad. That way I will still have excelent cold responce and will have a LOT more cooling aira to heep the pads within their hear range. Think of the F355, drive around town all day, hit the track, drive back home with no worry about the brakes. I dont usually see ferrari owners changing their brake pads at road atlanta on track day and I dont want to either. I want the best of both worlds.

Excellent, glad you have this thought through. I pekaed at your site earlier and you seemed to be knowledgeable. My concern is the plethora of people I see wanting to upgraded their MR2s brakes and they are not doing track days. There is just no point in it and "upgrading" brakes has the potentiality of hurting braking distance if not done correctly.

Most people are safest just making sure their OEM system is up to snuff.

For the hill climbs I am fine with a well functioning OEM system and some Porterfield R4S pads since I am only running 1 to 2 miles with a maximum of 13 turns. I have yet to feel any fade.

The best brake upgrade most people can do is get wider stickier tires

Good luck with your project.

I would go to www.mr2oc.com and try to talk to troy truello (spelling?). If i remember correctly, he has mk.4 supra 4 piston calipers and custom brakets to make them fit... see what kind of master cyl. he has.

I was and am looking at a wilwood upgrade all round some time. increased volume is necessary for that. i saw an upgrade kit using supra brakes that didn't mention the master cyl though...

does anyone know if theres any harm done by having a master cylinder that's bigger than what you need?

If the master cyl is too large you will have VERY poor control of the break system. The peddal will act more like a switch with an ON/OFF tendancy. In other words the breaks could be very hard to controll and threshold breaking could be nearly impossible.

Ive been checking out that IC setup your going to be running hyde, very nice. I especially like that positive pressure idea by blocking off the side vents.

So, anybody know if a supra-tt master cylendar will work in the stock location on the MKII The brake booster is a bit larger in the supra if I remember correctly.

I understand that the sc 300 and SC400 use a lot of the same brake components as the MK4 supra. Anybody know if the master cyl out of that car is the same as the supra. I think a wrecked SC should be a LOT easier to find.
