2nd Generation plugs & wires

I'm changing the plugs and wires in a 92 MR2 Turbo. I asked my friend, who knows alot about cars, if it would be ok to just buy some regular wires from Advanced or somewhere, because the car is bone stock at the moment. He said I should definitely not get performance wires as of now, but he did suggest some actual Toyota wires.

I'd rather not pay the rediculous price for dealership wires if I don't have too, but I dont want to buy some crappy aftermarket wires, either.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of wires for a stock setup that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Shop around Toyota Dealers online for the best prices on OEM wires.

I bought autolite wires once and they were crap. Lasted about 30K miles and then the engine would miss from time to time, then it crapped out.

Bought OEM wires from the dealer after that, never had a problem again.

Here are the ones I bought from in the past.

Whether you are bone stock or running over 600 hp, you want the stock Toyota wires.
The only other option is the TRDs. I would suggest using the factory wires and replacing them once a year along with a new Toyota cap & rotor. I recommend the NGK 6097 plugs.

The ignition system is crucial on the turbo MR2.
Buy anything other than stock and you will pay the price ... typically lost performance.

i heard Iridiums go bad after 6,000km. Platinum's where u want to pay the money for plugs. cheaper and lasts longer.

NGK coppers are pretty nice. they are 1 heat range colder, but DO need to be replaced a little more often than platinum.

does it go Copper, Iridium, Platinum in terms of performance? But reverse order in terms of interval changing?

Copper is your best option for performance.
The downside of copper is it does not last long.

Platinums are great in mildly boosted cars that would like to go longer without changing plugs.

Considering how cheap copper plugs are ($1.75/each) and how easy they are to swap in/out, why bother? I have changed plugs at least 6 times this year and I haven't even put 1000 miles on Hyde ... of course, we are playing with tuning and I am doing a lot of racing. I am picking up 3 more sets of plugs today for $20.

Iridium I would avoid in boosted applications. There have been a number of boost cars that have destroyed the tiny electrode ont he iridium plugs and it has damages their valves.
