over heating prob

Ok, I'm driving down the hi way and a hear a noise. sounds like an exhaust leak. I check it out. the nuts holding the O2 sensor in place have come off and the O2 sensor is completely out of the hole and hanging there. i stop at Pep Boys, get 2 nuts and put it back on. a few miles down the road, my temp gauge needle is buried in the red. I pull over, no noise like hissing from escaping coolant pressure, the hoses/engine doesn't feel any hotter than normal. I sit there forwaiting ever for the temp to go down and it doesn't. I start thinking my temp gauge has gone whako. so I get home shut it down and several hours later the temp goes down , coolant level is good and everthing seems normal. drove it last night around town and everytning seems fine. gauge seems to works. WTF? could the O2 sensor have sent some kind of signal to the ECU and caused all this? can they be related? input please...

sounds odd... I know on my 5sfe the O2 will set off my check engine light... but I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the coolant system.. I'd suggest checking your sensor, or thermostat...
good luck.

I really don't they're related either, but I'm at a loss and since they happened at the same time, i thought ,WTF,I'll ask the TN guys... they're always a help...but as of right now, both sensor and temp gauge seem to be functioning fine..I just replaced the thermostat less than 3 mos. ago...hhhmmm?
