Is there any bolt on mods or any performance mods for my 2.2 litre non turbo 1992 MR2
Please help I am a beginner and would like to know what can be done to my normally aspirated 1992 MR2 2.2 litre to get an easy gain in power. Any Information or links would be greatly appreciated

don't forget underdrive pulley! and a light-weight cam gear....
speaking of a header... anyone know where I can buy one for my 5sfe\3sfe ... I'd seen a few OBX brand on ebay a while back... but I was too late to bid. any ideas?
3S-GTE swap!
Sorry, I just have to say it every time =P
Anywho, for quick easy power, the things the guys recomended above are all great.
Also, you can get a lightweight flywheel to free the motor up a bit.
It will require more shifter work, but who minds that?
Shifting is half the fun =)
I have a 91 NA MR2 and I was wondering the same. After reading other posts and just thinking about the money and the "bang for the buck" I decided to stop at the cold air intake and save up for the 3stge (225hp). I heard that the 5s engine is a pain to maintain if you want to put more than a fart of boost into. You also have to think of the internals. the 3sgte has Harder more durable internals (think pressure on aluminum can vs pressure on a titanium can). there is just so much more that u can put in and get out than the 5s. I dont have the 3s yet but I will get it and it will be sweet.

Hey David, I still see headers for that engine ALL the time on ebay...inexpensive too. just gotta keep looking. the underdrive lightweight pulley is a great mod. and easy to do. after the ECU accepts it, there is a noticable difference in performance. i think the light weight flywheel is good bang for the buck too.no increase in HP ,but more power to the ground and a faster reving engine. alot better response.
I went ahead and purchased the OBX header\mid-pipe..... and an ANSA muffler. yeah, only one... I guess it one muffler looks odd under there, I can always throw another one on..... I just have to het this mother running before school \ nopi nationals
here's a picture of the 3sfe after powder coating the intake manifold and valve cover...
here's a picture of the OBX header assembly with mid pipe....
I'm still waiting on my water and oil pumps.... and my timing belt\tensioner kit.... then I get to fashion some exhaust.... I think I'm gonna stick with a single exit for now.... here's the ansa muffler:... never mind... the link doesn't work on this one...
Well, here's the run down of approximate power gains:
Headers: 8-10whp
Intake: 3-5whp
Exhaust: 3-5whp
SAFC: 10whp
Max gain: 30whp, or 136rwhp at a 106rwhp baseline
Cams: ~10-20whp, dependent on grind and actual head flow
P&P: ~5-10whp, dependent on other mods
OS valves, 2mm: ~5-10whp, dependent on other mods
OS TB: ~5-10whp, dependent on mods
Max theoretical gain: 50whp, or 186rwhp*^ at a 136rwhp baseline Realistic gain: 37.5rwhp by using the average, or 173.5rwhp at a 136rwhp baseline Probable gain: 25whp, or 161rwhp* at a 136rwhp baseline
* with green topped, 215cc injectors
^ highly improbable though possible with $$$, nearly 220hp at the crank
Max theoretical gain: 167.4rwhp with 195cc injectors^ Realistic gain: 157.4rwhp with 195cc injectors^ Probable gain: 145rwhp* with 195cc injectors^
* Note that Snodgrass had a standalone EMS, this setup does not
^ Yellow topped
The I/H/E gains would be better with a better fuel system, and supporting head modifications. Batch fire is just too crude for my taste, and the thought of all 4 injectors firing in all cylinders at the same time, regardless of which cylinder is firing, is wasteful. That's why stock for stock, the 93+'s just feel better and more responsive with its batch 2+2 firing. But, a full sequential multi-port fuel injection update would require at least a standalone EMS, and possibly some re-wiring.
but I'm not going to be racing my mr2 often... keep in mind I have an auto\NA.... and the body is soooo obiese... that all of my mods are simply to make it a decent daily driver... nothing to be afraid of, and nothing that get's boo'd ... just a fun car. and trust me, if I could afford petrol and the price of a swap... I'd have a 3sgte in a heartbeat.
