hey you guys I just acquired an 86 toyota mr2 but once i start it.. it seems to not keep idleing?? Then i give it a little gas then it seems to keep alive but it still want to die.. but once its warm its alright..

there are so many facets to why a car like yours won't idle. there isn't enough info [empirical data] to properly point you in the right direction. you may want to try the idle adjust screw first. inspect the throttle cable and linkages, check your ignition timing. that's for starters.

thanks but still might it be the compression.. it drives fine but just during take off it stalls on acceleration??

I had the same problem with my 89 mr2. It all started when I put a aftermarket cone filter on it. when I would pull up to stop lights I would accelerate when turned green and it just kind of bogged down. So i took it to a shop and of course got ripped off for a new fuel filter and some other crap. I later asked my awesome automotive teacher and he told me since I put that new filter on the computer didn't adjust to all the new airflowing increase and all I needed to do was reset the computer. So I unplugged the positive side of the battery for about ten minutes and that was the last of the stalling out. A cheap and easy fix. You should try it and let me know what happens.

what points towards compression?

sounds kinda like a timing/tps problem.

also, has nothing to do with an airfilter.

eh when i shift hard the 3 lights blinks and the wipers tick out of place??
