I've never had any issues with the car like this. It started randomly today. If I start the car, it revs for a sec and dies. If I give it gas, it stays running, but there is a slight vibration that there never was. If I drive the car, when I let off the gas it jerks, and when I press the gas again it jerks.
Not sure if anyone can figure out what I mean, but if you have ANY ideas, please tell me!!
Too many possibilties but here are a few things off the top of my head. Perhaps a stuck EGR. Maybe even a bad coolant temp sensor or clogged fuel filter.
Does it happen with any predictability (ie. hot, cold, wet).
Fully maintained all it's life. As of a month ago, it has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, filter.
It has never happened before, but the wet plug thing has... and this is different from that. When I gas it, it revs fine (though a little shaky), as opposed to no power.
A couple days ago I did see it almost to the red line on the temp gauge; another thing that has never happened. I opened the engine cover and heard the overflow bubbling!
Ok, I just drove it, and it is idling at 600rpm (opposed to the regular 1200), smells like a four wheeler (running rich?) and idles like a truck with a lumpy cam in it! WTF??
Brought it to a shop today... turns out I had a stuck AFM. All is well now... $112 later...
Also, I guess I was down 2 quarts of oil, which may have been my overheating problem. Weird thing is, no lights came on and my oil pressure was still decent!
Scratch that. It just started doing it again. Sounds like I need a new AFM... and they are $212 + $50 core at the parts store... and have to be ordered!!
i'm in the reverse situation! it idles high enough when starting (1200rpm), but as it's warmed up, the idle drops to 600rpm and sometime stalled!
i'm still trying to figure it out, any help would be nice!
ever thought about adjusting the idle screw on the throttle body? the idle once warm should be ~900 rpm.

i would be looking further into that, being low on oil will not cause it either.
