Offset for 18"x10" rears and 18"x8" fronts on an MR2

Hello guys!

As some of you may know, i had an accident a few months ago. well, my project is almost finished. so i need WIDE rims!!! im planning to get 2 18x10 for the rear and 2 18x8 for the front. my problem is that i dont know what offsets i should get with the 8" for the front and the 10" for the rear to get the widest lip possible for the rear 10", and so that i wouldn't rub any of the inner wheel well or the struts. DONT worry about rubbing the fenders, if they rub then i would just have to cut them out then built some fender flares. pls help! thanks, appreciate it..

Are you looking for flush with the fenders or do you actually want them to go past the fenders and add flares?

18x8 + 35 will fit nicely up front. No rubbing and will sit perfectly flush with fenders.

18x10 in the rear will never fit without at least rolling the fenders. A +38 - +40 offset would probably put you pretty close to the fenders, but like I said, you'll definately have to at least roll the fenders, if not cut the lip off all together, and you're also getting dangerously close to the suspension as well.

If I were you, I'd go with 18x9's in the rear, unless you absolutely want to flare the rear fenders.

I'm so glad to see this post. I was gonna PM you 4DMR2t about your tire/rim set up. looks very good. just the way I want mine to look. I was not sure about rim width and offset. I want to stick with 17's tho. and wanted them to be flush with fenders. opinions?
and MR2crazybyong, glad to hear you're almost finished. had to be a bunch of work for you. can't wait to see pics of your restored 2

I have 17x10 in the rears w/ a +12 offset. It works out pretty damn good with the widebody kit. The only prob. i orig. had was the tires were rubbing the wheel wells. Took care of that problem real quick! =)

Thanks guys!
4DMR2t: yes, i want them to go past the fenders and add flares. according to mike@Fidanza he has +12 offset, so 18x10 +12 offset would do for the rear? what about on front? i also want them to past the fenders abit.
MR2BAD: Here are some pics of it. still needs some minor adjustments of the skirt and bumper. Then some paint.. Fender flares i havnt added yet, i need the rims to custom fit the flares. hope you like it..

thanks for the input guys!!

by the way, you can see how ugly and how tucked in my wheels are.. damn, staggered wheels are expensive!! but its better to spend abit more money to get what you want and what satisfies you than wasting money on cheaper things that won't satisfy that feeling. hehehe..

You're absolutely right about that.

The offset you want is gonna be determined by how far your flares stick out. If you want them to sit flush with the fenders, you'll have to measure the distance from your hub to the fender. I couldn't really tell you an accurate offset to use, based on simply looking at your pics. Especially considering you only had pics of the front thusfar.

Quick rule of thumb, the lower the offset, the more the rim will stick out. So, an 18x10 +12 will stick out pretty far in the rear. About 4.53 inches from the hub, to be exact. That's almost 2 inches past the stock fender lip. You'll need some beefy flares to fit that, or a WBK!

As for the front, like I said, I couldn't give you an accurate number without knowing exactly how "wide" your fenders are. But from the looks of it, an 18x8 should have a pretty low offset with the "wideness" you have.

Just an example, if you have 1 inch wide flares, you'll be looking at an offest of around +10-12 to sit flush.

If you really want it to look good, you gotta take your time and do lots of measuring. It's like you said, take the time to do it right the first time, and you'll be a lot happier later.

Best of luck! and BTW, your kit's looking pretty good so far. Make sure to keep us updated!
Frank
