Just like J&H posted, it came with the '93+ as an option.
Tell your friend that MR2s are waaay more reliable than a 944 and even though MKIIs are rare they're still cheaper to repair if and when that time comes.
How are the ease of parts? (More-so performance) And what is the car's potential?
My friend is more interested in Auto-cross and the stuff that test the cars potential. So when I learned that the car is practically 50-50 front to rear balance, that was a plus.

Yeah. From my research, I've found that the 93' after are even rarer. I assume the turbo version will be even rarer.

Thats not a very good arguement because the 944 has a good 50-50 weight distribution as well.
Tell him the 944 is an interference engine and he's going to have to spend a TON to maintain it. Trust me I know, my dad had one and had to do the timing belt, water pump etc. a couple of times.
Parts and labor are going to be alot less for the 2 than the Porsche.
A turboed MR2 also has more horsepower than a 944 Turbo, and an N/A MR2 has more than an N/A 944.
I really like the 944, its a sexy car, but an MR2 should definately be more trouble free and just as much fun to drive.

Well, the main reason he wants a 944 because it's light as hell. His friend said the turbo version, 200 hp could beat out his 300 hp infiniti.
I also looked into buying a 944 turbo. Good luck finding one in great condition for under $10k. Most have over 100k miles and the timing belt/60k mile maintance is like $2k alone. That is suposed to be done every 60k miles, and the 30k mile maintance is almost $1k. Thats general maintance. Wait untill the suspension starts to go, or if he wants to get aftermarket parts. There are not many aftermarket parts. The upgrade kit which includes injectors, computer chip, and something else for the 944 turbo is like $1200. Go mr2 turbo. Much cheaper, reliable, just as quick if not quicker, and will handle just as good when the suspenion is upgraded and will be ALOT cheaper to upgrade.
Then why does my friend say it can beat out his friend's 300 HP infiniti? (I think it's an SUV but even with the extra 1000 pounds wouldn't the infiniti still win?)
Edit: It's a Q45. Rated at 340 Hp and 333 tourque, Vs the Porsche 944 Turbo which is 208HP//207 tourque. The regular model has something like 150 hp.
