OK, you need to modify any FWD tranny that fits so the shift linkage will work. That being said. You can use a camry, solara, etc... anything that was FWD and had the following engines (5s-fe, 3s-gte, 1mz-fe, 3mz-fe, 3VZ-fe and a couple of others)

Contact www.mr2guru.com and tell them jim said to call. They wiill have a transmission if you cant find one locally.

Or if your headed to the NOPI show I can bring one with me.

Hey thanks alot. If I use a camry transmission will the starter bolt up the same way that it does now or will I need to modify it also. Will a tranny from a corrolla fit?

Yes the starter from the camry 4cyl (and V6) will fit just fine.

The corolla trans would depend on the year. Older corollas used A series motors. Those dont bolt to the 5s (I have tried) but, Look at the engine code of the car you are considering pulling the tranny from. (usually stamped on the back of the block) If the second letter is "S" as in 3S-GE then it WILL bolt up. All S series blocks have the exact same bolt pattern. Also any transmissions from M or V series motors will bolt up with almost no issues. In some years extra bolt holes were added or removed so ignore them if you have extra holes left over.
