my brother has a 300zx 2+2 n/a and i may be getting it but if i dont i would want to get a diffrent 300zx or a mr2
could a 300zx n/a beat a mr2 turbo?
im guesing most people in here a biased but please give me what you think is better
and can a n/a mr2 keep up with 300zx n/a?
thanks alot for the help im new in here and this is my first post so i hope i didnt brake any rules
I raced by best friend in his 300ZX NA, with my NA MR2... and i beat him by a considerable margin (although i think the driver had a lot to do with it im sad to say), granted i had taken out almost two hundred lbs. of "uneeded weight"... we both had intakes, both are manual.
Obviously you will think that because this is an MR2 forum that people are biased here, well i can assure that an MR2 turbo will beat an NA Z... just look up the stock 1/4 times for each car, youll see. about a 14.7 to a 16.4
Im assuming your talking about a Z32 and not a Z31.
N/A vs N/A... close call... driver skill determines. My money is on the deuce due to superior traction.
Turbo vs Turbo... a decent battle, but the win goes to the Z.
But turbodeuce vs N/A Z32, no contest win for the yota.
The thing you have to be careful of is the easy of making huge power in a turbocharged Z32. You can push 500hp with not too much cash.
Stock for stock (or close to it) I would take an MR2 any day.
Dane: What did you do to shed 200 lbs?
That's a LOT of weight.
yea my brother has a 91 300zx
but i found a mr2 91 for 4,000$ and my price range is around 5000 and i want a fast car that looks tight and here in minnesota there arent alot of mr2's and stuff
Speedball: Yes i was referring to the Z32. Heres an almost assuredly incomplete list of the crap that is no longer in my car: Front and rear bumper supports (a friend did this), spare tire, all carpet, all sound deadening, all speakers, head unit, passenger seat, passenger seatbelt, power antenna, toyota tool kit, boxes behind driver/passenger, stock intake box assembly, plastic shrouds, front strut brace, glove box, climate control, (t tops were off during race because it was only up to about 80mph), and im sure there is more.... im probably forgetting something.
I weighed it all at my friends house and it said 218, i thought "this cant be right" so we took it all back to my home via pickup and weighed it there... scale read 18o-something, which i think is closer to the actual weight. Let me know what you think.
A MR2 mkII NA is faster than a 300zx NA 2+2. The rear seat adds a considerable amount of weight. Now if the z wasn't a 2+2, it would be closer, but the mr2 will still edge out the z. My advice would be to buy the mkII, they are less common, handles MUCH better than that z, and will last longer. Oh and gets better gas mileage.
i here that mr2's spin out easly and my bros 300zx handels pretty good, my neiboor had a porshe 944 and that car handled like mad, idk what i should do what is like a sweet looking fast and cheap car? prelude? what else is there to pick from around $5000?
both those cars handle very well. it's all about the driver and what he can do with it. I do prefer the mid engine handling. front engine is more forgiving, but you can really push the envelope with a mid engine set up. it's a matter of preference...
When you say "faster", you have to be more specific. Do you want a car that can make insane HP numbers and just go fast in a straight line? or do you want something that makes decent power and can dominate the twisties?
I'd say an MR2 n/a beats a 300zx n/a 2+2 in both categories.
The MR2 is cheaper to maintain, and a lot easier to work on yourself. Ever try getting your hands into the engine bay of a z? If you have, you know what I'm talking about.
With the MR2, you also have the option of doing an easy motor swap to a turbo down the road. Rear turbo clips are pretty easy to come by, and usually not much more than a couple grand. And the swap is pretty simple. Not so easy on a Z.
I'd so both cars have their + and - If the Z was the 2 seater, it'd be a tuff choice, but with it being the 2+2, I'd go for the MR2. The longer 2+2 Z just looks funny to me.
Best of luck!
