MA state inspections

Just got my car inspected in mass, I have a KO racing exaust from main cat back. In mass every other year you get emisions tested and safety on the other years. This year was safety (getting there) the guy said that next year the stations are looking for stock exaust systems on every vehicle getting inspections anything but stock you willl fail? I asked why? he had no answer. Don't know how much of this will stick but is there any other states that have this???? The only reasons I could see this is happening is sound but there are stock vehicles out there from the factory that are louder than my quieter KO.

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/90-16.htm

Quote:
No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.
Basically it says if it's louder than "stock" exhaust, it's illegal.

If you tamper with the cat (KO downpipe), they can fail you unless you have an aftermarket cat

What you can do is put it back to stock when you go to inspection or
find a place that won't bother.
Where are you in Mass. I know a place that's always easy on me.
If it's not too freaking loud, they don't care.

yeah still have the primary cat and I have the quieter ko exaust its not loud at all, it sounds like these people at the inspection stations don't really know except for the general observation of the non factory exaust to fail every one so to speak, and not the decible level.
Thanks for the info. By the way I live on cape and if that location is close enough let me know car_cats@yahoo.com.

Ya well, try going to California.
The ko racing exhaust replaces the stock bpipe. secondary cat is on the bpipe, so you would understand how it would affect tailpipe emission. Any changes to the cars VE, pretty much fr the air filter to the exhaust tip.
