just finished putting in a small port into my AW and there is a SEVERE oil leak! coming from just below the distributor. this is a strange spot, the only thing i can think of is a crack or there is a small hole plugged with a ball. please help!
replaced the o ring on the dist shaft when i put the engine in. the leak seems to be just below the dist but not at the head gasket where i initally though. the leak is SERIOUS with increased oil pressure the leak turns into a constant flow.
yeah, thee's the problem, then. remove your dizzy cap and check for oil inside the dizzy/cap. also, did you apply oil to the outer ring when you installed it? if not, that o ring is now useless.
not really that much oil in the cap, just a little residue. i didnt oil the ring first. just got one from toyota today, will have to try it again. do you really think that that much oil could come from the outer ring? or shaft seal?
well, at first, i thought i only had residue also, but even after the outer ring was replaced, i was still killing alternators. after the whole dizzy was sealed properly, alternator has been fine!
alternator? i just cant imagine how this much oil would be getting by the o rings, there is oil RUNNING down the exhaust side of the motor. makes sense though the leak is right below the dist.
last week, i changed the oil filter and noticed alot of oil had dripped onto the exhaust manifold. after driving it several miles, i noticed that there was a leak somewhere still around the exhaust. i then changed the oil cooling line from the cooler to the oil pan as it appeared to be seeping pretty good. the other line was in good shape.
i still have a minor leak somewhere, it is very small, but enough to drip on the exhaust manifold. i suspect it may be the oil cooler/filter housing that is leaking, but can't be for sure until i can get under it after work today.
does the oil filter housing/mount use paper gaskets?
