Well this was my first autocross in Hyde in a very long time and it stank even though I won.
The event was held by the Susquehana region of the SCCA (Harrisburg, PA area). The event was in Lancaster, PA.
I did not post about winning the Weatherly Hill Climb last weekend, so this was another back-to-back weekend of wins. I won the Weatherly and set a new hil lrecord there again. I entered the autocross this week because I am really trying to push/test Hyde under as many different circumstances as I can to see what kind of "all around performance car" we actually built.
Hyde handles neutral-to-inducable oversteer on the hill climbs, but for some reason on an autocross course he wants to understeer like a pig.
Maybe my stagger is too big? (265 rear and 225 front).
Anyway, I only actually used boost to get off the line and a bit into 2nd gear. Regardless of how open the course looked during the walk through, I could get on the power and if I di, I would immediately eat the outside cones of the ensuing turn. So after 2 valient efforts of actually trying to go fast, I resigned myself to slowing down and going smooth .... all handling and brake work, no real power.
I immediately picked up 2+ seconds which pole vaulted me in to a permanent lead. I took first, but I was still 2 seconds behind the cars I felt I should have been running with.
I was running Kumho Ecsta V700s (my hill climb set up) and I felt like I did not have much grip at all. Or maybe just oo much grip in the back and none up front. I lowered my rear tire pressures and that helped a bit, but not enough.
Anyway, that was my 7th win of the year (1 autoX, 1 drag race and 5 hill climbs).
Thanks to all of my sponsors for the remarkable year! 7 wins out of 11 races!
Some pics: (1st pic, yes the course worked is about to get the cone I just ate
