my new toy

1985 mr2 n/a.

560 bucks.

after about two weeks of troubleshooting what i thought was a dead #10 and #20 signal to the injectors. i got her going. she starts right up and purrs even after sitting for two years.

no rust anywhere.

120k on the car, but the engine has about 35. it's a jdm red top.

i don't plan on any mods.

anyways,

here is a couple of pics:

it's going to be the daily driver. i think i'm going to keep as original as i can, or as long as the motor lasts, then maybe set it up for track.

i just fixed the headlight switch. tomorrow will be shocks all around.

then off to get her registered.

you know, i looked very closely today and i could not locate any serious rust damage. there is no rust whatsoever in the typical places.

man, i am so happy this thing is running now. she starts right up and is super quite.

p.s. i've heard the headlight switch is a common problem. the problem with mine was the connector pins on the switch itself had cracked solder joints. i resoldered them and the switch works great.

Wow, all I have to say is wow.....
If I had bought a car for $560 it would harbor a colony of norwegian rats.=, let alone expect it to run.

Congrats bro...

oh, 160 dollars of that 560 was for the new fuel pump. the old fuel was trashed due to the arizona dust and the fuel pumps strainer being elsewhere in the tank. the old pump might have been ok because the lack of pressure was really due to the rubber hose attaching the pump to the hardline had a rip in it.

i figured since i had a new fuel pump, might as well use it.

the whole job of removing the tank, replacing the wiring to the pump, making new gaskets and reinstalling the tank took approx 4 hours.

it really helps to have the car completely off the ground.
