Rims flush with fenders, what size?

Right now I'm rolling on stock 14's, which are beautiful and in mint condition, but I want to keep them for racing or winter purposes, I would love to get another set for cruising days. Anyone have a suggestion? As to which rim size, i.e. 17x7 front 17x8 rear, and what offset? i.e. 30, 35, 40... etc.. What combination would be good for daily driving, look hot, and also sit completely flush with the fenders and quarters.. I mean FLUSH as in able to draw a line straight down... and if not, then anything that will stick out a little is fine, but I dont like the sunken wheel look.

17x7 ET35 front, 215/40
17x8 ET33 rear, 245/40

Wheels sticking out make your tires rub, rubbing is not fun to drive with for a whole bunch of reasons. If you want absolute flush then you have to consider fender rolls. Those figures above are about as close as I'd go with stock fenders - they've worked on most MKIIs.

Wanna roll your fenders? Keeping your suggested widths for front & rear I'd consider:

17x7 ET25
17x8 ET23

With those offsets you may have to reduce your front tire's width to 205s and your rears to 235s.

There's a lip of sorts on the fender that protrudes inwards a few millimetres. It can be almost 'folded' closed by removing your wheels then putting a rolling tool or rolling a baseball bat across the inside length of the fender (while heating up the paint so it won't crack). This will give you additional clearance for those extra wide wheels/tires and for those obsessed with the 'flush' look.

IMO, you can make it look virtually flush without all that, just do your homework & get the right wheels/tires mounted.

Thanks guys, i was thinking the same thing, not to go bigger than 17, and to go with 7 in the front and 8 in the rear with those offsetts, i want a look similar to this.. (suspension wise)...

These are the sizes I'm using.

F: 17x8 +40 215/40 tires
R: 17x9 +35 245/40 tires

To sit perfectly flush, the fronts could come out another 5mm and the rears could come out another 2mm.

So, ideally, I wanted this:

F: 17x8 +35
R: 17x9 +33

That being said, it's very very hard to find a rim style you like that is offered in both sizes you're looking for. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a couple millimeters here and there to get what you want.

It also should be said that if you want "flush" wheels, the rear fenders will absolutely have to be rolled. I had to roll mine to fit my wheels.

Best of luck!
Frank
