Torquing head

Anyone know how I should torque the head bolts on an '89 Celica with the 4afe 1.6 engine? I have read about three different ways. I went by the Chilton's manual which said to torque them in three steps to 47ft/lbs (I think). Others say to torque to a lower value then another 90deg in three steps. Yet another source said torque to a value then two 90deg turns.

What is the correct method?

Thanks,

Lou
