I went to local dealer here in RI yesterday. I asked him if toyota is planning a new sports coupe. He said according to his toyota rep, toyota is planning 2 coupes in the next 2 years. The first if is what he called "a successor to the celica". He said this is the car being co-developed with Subaru. According to his rep this car should be debuting either at Detroit or Chicago early next year. The second coupe he said would be "successor to the supra" (again his quote) and probably will be shown in either concept or production around the 2009 auto show circuit.
Just a side note: I have know this salesman at this dealership for 20 years and between my family and I we have bought 8 new toyota's from this dealership and this salesman. So, I think to some extent I can believe what he is saying.
