hey ya'all i bought a 88 corolla fx 2dr hatch back. sweet little car. my family and i love it but twice already in about 8 thousand miles the automatic transmission has gone bad. the first time it locked up dead and slid to a stop on the highway. second time not as bad. but afterward it alaways makes a loud whining grind after i get it to move. i think its in the "final drive" as it shifts and pulls well.
both times i have repaired it by buying a used transmission.i was wondering is there anything to do to stop this? maybe any maintence something. i don't think its me i baby the car.
are these like a weakness in toyotas of that year? maybe its just my dum luck. but like i said we love the car if theres anything i can do to prevent it from happening i would like to know.
