Update on Stereo

So I managed to fit 2 amps under the middle seat, 5.25" Infinity Reference Separates in the door, 5.25" MB Quart Coaxials in the rear, and I ran some new wires to the dash holes to run 5.25 Infinity Coaxials up in the middle of the dash. I'm running a Clarion head unit and dvd player out of my 4runner (rear ended and a total loss), a SAVV rearview mirror screen, and a NASE flip down monitor for the rear passengers...

Here's some tips that you may find helpful:

1. I drilled new holes in the door panel for the tweeters and the only place they would fit are next to the mid in the stock location. I put the new tweeter a little up and to the front of the mid. Speaking of the mid, I ran into quite a bit of trouble. I ended up using some metal strapping from home depot because the stock mounting bracket would not budge off of the stock speaker and I managed to strip the screw so bad that I would have had to drill it out. So, I mounted 3 strips of the metal strapping to the speaker using the stock mounting screws and the screws that came with the separates. The magnet and air tube for the heater held the speaker in place just fine once the three metal straps were screwed down. As for the crossover, I had to stuff it in the upper half of the door panel just under the lock and handle and "oh sh*t" bar. It doesn't rattle or anything and so far the wires haven't pulled out...

2. Because I didn't have stock speakers in the middle of the dash, I ran some speaker wire down to the back of the deck and tapped into the rear channels back there. It messes with the fade a little since the front speakers are hooked up with the rear speakers, but since the stock tweeters were hooked up to the front channel, the resistance would be all off if I hooked in those speakers to the front channel too. There was one little catch...I guess there's a diagnostic plug in a bracket up there if you don't have stock speakers in the hole. I simply unscrewed everything and relocated the plug so it comes out of the middle hole right above the relays, if you open it up, you'll see where I'm talking about, there's only one hole big enough to get it out, right in the middle, below the holes and above the relays.

3. For the rear speakers, I was fortunate enough to have a buddy in the stereo install business so while he was installing my alarm, he pulled the rear panels out and mounted the speakers. He used the stock brackets and some black plastic glue stuff that held the speakers in place.

4. With respect to the head unit and dvd player, I used the stock mounting brackets and they lined up on the holes with my deck and dvd player...they should work on almost any din unit with the stock pocket. Be aware that if you run two amps 2 screens, and a dvd player, you will have to do a lot of creative placing of the wires, as it is pretty tight back there if you have tons of wires.

I don't know how many people out there are actually going to read this post, but since I rarely post anything anywhere, I thought I'd share my experience...I don't get on the forums much, but I can be reached by email at NateKaneshiro@gmail.com as well if you have any questions about my install
