USA craigs list suggestion

93 toyota truck 4wheel drive $1700 88k miles 4 cylinder

poasted on craigs list thinking about buying for daily driver
what should i look for mechanicly
can i talk him down any lower?
is a 93 comming with the 2.4 or the 2.7?

Price seems OK, depending on condition. It will have the 2.4 liter(22RE) engine. If you can, besides checking the easy-to-check fluids, check to see if it has differential, transfer case and transmission oil in it. You'd be surprised to find how many owners never even check these, let alone top them off, let alone change them. Look for leaks underneath, including rear main seal, coolant, ATF in the power steering, etc. Check every function and control. drive it for as long as you can(an hour) to see if there are any cooling issues. Are you in a rust prone area? That's biggie we don't have here in CA. If it's a good engine, it should have enough power to go up a slight grade on the interstate in 5th gear, assuming normal size tires. Maybe an xtracab would be slower. Be prepared to replace every hose and belt soon, if they haven't.
