Exclamation 22re engine bogs down

its a 85 22r 2wd 5sp 1ton efi, took the whole day taking and cleaning the air/fuel system. i hate rusted junk. anyways my truck decided to just start bogging down.

i had replaced the thermostat in it 3 days ago. drove it about 200 miles everything was fine. went to go run errands today, stopped at the gas station to get something, went inside and left truck running, maybe about 2 mins. came out and put it in 1st. hit the gas and just bogged down. hit 2nd, bogged down rpms came up somewhat it was fine, 3rd, bogged down, and so on. ease into the throttle slowly it moves decently but is still annoying if traffic is moving, grandma and her walker is same speed. i redid the whole fuel system last year it has about 200k on it. started taking the fuel air system apart because it was all gummed up looking and cleaned it. went for the egr valve and broke the pipe with a nut on it trying to free it. so much carbon build up, the little pipe for the hose was a solid black powder rock. Sorry for the ramble, tired and irritated.

egr valve is good now. put everything back together, idles better than i have ever seen in 3 years. still same problem, Bogs down rpms pick up and then its decent to drive, every gear is like that. what could it be? im so lost

compression is moderately ok at 145-150. would a bad cat cause that much of a problem?

Been there, but luckily I had junk engines to strip parts from. Mine was clogged solid too, I actually had to drill thru the crap to open up the passage in the manifold.

One question, in the subject line of your post it says you broke the flange of the EGR valve, but the last sentence says "that piece that connects the egr valve and the intake together". Is it the mounting flange of the valve, or the connecting pipe that broke?

OK, breaking off one side of the flange is very common.
