Question Parts compatibility

Hi all--newbie here from VT. I have owned Toyota pickups since 1978, and have not needed a forum like this until now. My current ride (Toyota #7) is a 93 SR5 w/ V6 and auto. It's the first auto trans I have ever owned, starting in 1965, and it will be my last. I have had the truck for two years, and have yet to achieve 14 mpg. I get a consistent 13, and my mechanic tells me it won't get any better. My previous ride was a 92, same truck, but 5 speed, and had to sell when floor mat was all that held interior together. That one gave me a consistent 18-20 mpg. I have an opportunity to buy a 90 Four-Runner w/ V6 and 5 speed, and need to know if drive train parts are interchangeable with my 93 SR5. Before posting this I searched the forums, and believe the answer to be 'yes', but just need to confirm.

Yes, except for the trans and t-case.

That's a bummer, since all I need to replace is the trans and tf case. In surfing through Craig's list and a couple other worthwhile ad papers since my original post, I have located a couple other suspects for donor trucks, but they are not 93s. FWIW, my SR5 is not a Tacoma or Tundra, just a regular Xtra cab pickup. Is there a web-site, perhaps linked to this one, which is a comprehensive cross-reference chart showing what fits what. I can mix and match Chevy pickup parts from the 40s thru 60s in my sleep, but this modern 1990s stuff isn't as forgiving. What other year trans and tf case will fit my 93?

If you're concerned about getting better MPG's, you should maybe get a cold air intake, possibly headers, an airgate.....every little bit helps.
