i was wondering would it be better bang for the buck to build the 22r and turbo it or swap the motor for somethin else i dont wanna v8 this thing do kinda wanna stick with toyota parts though and if it would be better to build the 22r what would i need?
Look into a supra 5mge or 7mge (or 7mgte) swap. Im pretty sure they bolt into the motor mounts, and all you need is a used bellhousing to bolt them to your 4cyl trans.

I got a buddy that swapped a 22r with a supra motor in his 85 and he done it himself and all he really has is alittle backwoods training. He truck is a beast now with that motor

Another option would be a Tacoma 3RZ swap. There was a youtube video with this swap, and on the initial test drive, it was tough keeping the rear wheels straight due to the power. (I can't find the link, but the PU had no bed.) IIRC, the wiring and engine mounts were the worst part of the swap, but there's plug-in harnesses available for it now. Your best bet it to buy a complete wrecked taco for the donor.
The 3RZ 3.4 is a good swap, the motor mounts are the same, bolts up to the 3.0 trans.
But the wiring can be a challange. ORS used to make a swap harness which made it close to PnP, but they're out-of-business.
The 3rz is the 2.7 L 4-cylinder; the 5vz is the v-6. I think the 22r to 3vz is easier than 22r to the 5vz (IIRC), but it's been a couple years since I last looked into it.
I didn't know ORS was closed, but their site is still up, and they say to join their mailing list to get info on some items' availability from other outlets. Who knows?
