91 pickup 22RE Fix or sell?

I've got a 91 pickup, 2wd, 22re eng, manual with 280,000. orig only 26,000 and she's been a beauty. now has leaky valve guide seals and lots o miles. So I bought a used 2003 with 48,000 thinking it would be as good...wrong! I love my old one better and it gets better gas milage. so I'm considering selling the 03 and having the 91 fixed or have a reman engine installed. I'm not a mechanic so not planning to do my own work but looking for some opinions.
The 91 still shifts more smoothly than the 03 and the transmission isn't loud. Needs a clutch soon. engine runs a bit rough. other than that I think it is superior to the 03.
Thoughts/opinions out there? should I just give up on the 91 and keep the 2003?
Thanks,
attached to my 91
