Leak behind water pump

I have an 88 Toyota pickup with a 22re. I replaced the water pump a couple of years ago and had problems with it sealing ever since. I can usually tighten up the nuts holding it on and that fix's it for awhile but now it's not happening. The leak is always in the same spot. I wonder if the water pump has warped or wasn't even straight from the factory. Anybody have any Ideas or have had the same Problem? I'm tired of it. LOL

Did you buy an aftermarket water pump? Use a gasket? How about RTV?

How hard did you tighten the hardware up? They don't require much torque, they will snap

Ya I just bought a water pump at a parts store after my original water pump died. I did use the gasket and RTV. I just snuged the hardware down.

The only way to fix the seal is to remove the part and reseal it. Once it starts leaking, tightening it is a waste of time.

Remove it and check it with a straight edge, make sure there are no high/low spots.

Then get another gasket and use a VERY thin coat of RTV this time. Then snug all the bolts up.
