screeching sound

I have a 93 toy pkup 5 spd and recently whenever i press on the gas while in neutral it has a screeching sound coming from the engine. it gets louder as i press harder on the gas. the sound only comes when i press the gas even in 2nd 3rd 4th gears possibly 5th.it even makes noise in reverse. i have headers and i'm thinking that the noise is coming from the gasket to the exhaust?? or could it be transmission?. i have no loss of power, everything runs fine but it's the sound thats driving me nuts. please help. thanx in advance

edit*- i changed the flanged on the headers to the exhaust, and it still has the sound.

I'm thinking a bearing, maybe alt or water pump or idler pulley.

grinding sound

I don't think a belt would be the problem.

grinding sound

I have a very similar sound that is coming from the the front left or front. It's more like a grinding / screeching sound. It's pretty consistant at idle and driving in all gears. I took off the altern. belt it has a tad bit of noise but still turns smoothly. It will do it after you turn the engine off and the engine is winding down. Haven't checked the idle tensioner or water pump. I'm lost, did you ever find out what is was?

Using a long metal object (like a punch/drift) use it like a stethoscope to locate the source of the noise.

Place it on the alt and listen (be carefull, alts become magnetic while running), then move to the rest of the accessories.

When was the timing belt last changed, was the water pump changed too? If you know, what brand parts were used?
