backup lights failing 93 PU

  • Backup lights fail. All other lights are working. Replaced fuse and bulbs.
  • Made a visual check of backup light switch connector...it's in place and connected to wires.
  • Found a broken wire connected to what looks like a ground right next to driver side kick panel. It's a black/red wire, which is the same color wire connected to backup switch and lights.
  • Got no idea if this is right wire or not. This trucks been broken into twice for audio system and installer did poor job. So don’t know if that broken wire is from old audio system.
  • Any suggestions welcome.

Have you confirmed you are not getting power to the rear light sockets?

Get an ohmmeter and check for continuity between the broken-off black/red wire and the b/u switch black/red wire. Then you'll know.

Did this with Circuit tester. Gave me a red + positive light. Looks like it's the right wire. Appreciate that.
Trying to trail down where the wires go from the b/u switch. It crosses over on top of trans., splits with 1 side connected to the other side of trans. to another connector (kind of a Y shape) and the other side goes to engine compartment...haven’t figured out where it goes from there.
Looked over wiring diagrams but have not really helped me much. Need a wire map of truck instead.
Thanks again for the help.
