Steering out of alignment after bad wheel blow out
I was driving off-road today and had a massive blowout (like an explosion!) and afterwards, the steering wheel has to be turned about 70 degrees to the left to keep the truck going straight.
The front right tyre exploded when hitting a hole at low speed, the explosion and forward motion lifted the front end of the truck off the ground (according to my friend in another truck) and almost knocked me out (head hit the roof), and when I checked the damage, the rim had been dented in, and the tyre was off the rim.
It drives perfectly straight on the spare, and everything feels totally normal except the angle of the steering wheel. I checked the suspension, steering components (not that I know much about it) and can't see anything wrong.
What did I do and is it dangerous to keep driving with it like that? I have a big trip this coming week (1000km round trip, maybe 650 miles) and am a bit worried.
Thanks!
BigDan (in Australia).
