Australia Engine warning light

I have a 2009 Hilux 4x2 SR 4L Petrol.

I recently installed a reversing buzzer by just hooking it up to the left reversing/ backup light. Works fine for work purposes but sometimes it would be useful to switch it off temporarily...eg leaving a motel carpark early hours. So I thought I would fit a simple switch. Tried to find the circuit and fuse which goes to this by description but no-luck. Eventually by a process of elimination found it was the "ECU-IG & GAUGE".10amp.

Haven't changed anything yet as obviously this goes to the ECU, which I assume is Electronic Control Unit? So may be the computer or emission control. So I have to come up with PlanB and wire the switch more locally to the reversing lights/ buzzer themselves.

However after replacing fuses the "engine " indicator stayed on the dash. Didn't appear to affect any functions whilst driving but the Manual says "Take vehicle to Toyota Dealer". However after a couple of stops and restarts it stayed off.

Should I need to do anything else (apart from not removing fuses indescriminately in the future) ???

Thanks in advance,
Rod

More than likely the fuse was pulled long enough for the ECU to wipe it's memory. Than after a few trips relearned everything.
Just to be sure you could see if any error codes were stored and aren't related to those circumstances.

Error codes?

Thanks fourwd1. Excuse the ignorance but how do I check for error codes stored and a listing of what (I assume something flashes??) they mean.

Just an aside...why would they put supply to reversing lights through a critical ECU fuse?? Is there any site where I can obtain an elecrtrical schematic for that model or something close?

Thanks again and regards,
Rod

You can get the error codes read by connecting a scanner to the OBD-II port.
Here in the states (most of them) you can go to any auto parts store and get it done for free.

The closest online downloadable FSM for your truck that I know of is for a 2007 US model pickup (aka Tacoma).
