Alternator died. Replace it. Pickup won't idle and stutters.

I have a 93 2WD 22RE 5spd. The truck ran fine when the alternator died. I parked the truck for about 3 weeks. I replaced the alternator and while it starts fine, after a few seconds the idle drops and the engine dies. If I drive it, it stutters and is jerky. It's like it's not getting gas.

I have limited tools and knowledge and more limited money. Does anyone know why a truck would do this after the alternator died?

Thanks for trying. Disconnecting the battery didn't work. Since I have some time today, I'll be doing some basic maintenance like new plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, etc. I figure it can't hurt. I'll report back with and changes.

Main problem was a tear on the underside of the throttle body intake hose. Still jerky. Plan to tune up as soon as I can borrow a tachometer.
