2000 Toyota Tacoma Base, Towing Car and Car Trailer, Capacity

I have a basic towing and towing capacity question. I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma base model truck. I'm trying to tow a 1970 Datsun 510 (2,000pds) on a car trailer. Is this possible? Or will the truck fall apart in 13 pieces?
Would it make a 8 hour Interstate trip?
Here is a similar truck:

And the trailer is similar to this:

The maximum trailer weight for a 2000 Regular cab Tacoma 4cyl is 3500lbs. As for being able to tow, your fuel mileage will be lower, and you will have poorer performance, but as long as everything is working correctly (radiator, water pump, trans etc.) it should make it no problem.

There's a piece of the puzzle missing.
What engine is in the Taco, 4 cyl or 6?
And what trans, manual or auto?

He said base, so i just looked up the capacities for a 4cyl manual.

That's the 2wd with the 2RZ engine? 142 hp.
If its an automatic transmission, I would hesitate. If MT, no problem. The truck won't fall apart because the tow hitch (or bumper as the case may be) is bolted straight onto the frame. Its good to have a vehicle with a frame.

142 is a little weak for massive work, but to put that into perspective, I've pulled over 6000 with my 2TR (159 hp). Its only a 17 hp difference, my truck weighs more, and probably TWICE what you're looking to pull.
