Cylinder head removal

Since the FSM says to remove the head with both manifolds attached, can it be pulled off with a cherry picker? or does that stress the studs? Otherwise I'm gonna have to call more friends than I have to lift it off.
(And I'm only changing the gasket so I'm planning on leaving the manifolds on) Setting it back on with all that weight is what is really worrying me.

And how about re-using the head bolts? They are stock, never removed and for street use only (for now).

Any thought on these issues as well as gasket brand preferences (aren't they all made in China?) are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If your only going to change the head gasket you dont need a cherry picker. You can leave the intake manifold on but remove the exhaust manifold. I was able to lift the head myself without any assistance. As for the head gasket, I would stick with OEM. If that's not available Felpro would be my second choice....

Hi ,
I'm' actually working on the same project. 92 22re Its easy to lift the head with manifolds attached. As long as you are moderately strong I guess. There's a wiring harness that goes through the intake manifold that will cause you trouble. It's lots of disconecting wires, I haven't done this yet. But I was able to tilt the whole thing to the left and prop it and easily remove the old gasket. But I still want to take the whole thing off to do a bit of a rebuild. I did after all buy the whole gasket kit.

And as far as I know you are to put new head bolts in. I'm doing so.
