'84 Pickup not running right

Good day all,

I have an '84 pickup that suddenly started acting up. It started and ran normally for about 1-2 minutes then started sputtering and stalled while driving then would not restart and stay running. Managed to get it restarted after sitting for a day but then sputtered and stalled again after 1 minute of driving. The truck would start cold then idle up slightly as normal but then rough idle and barely stay running and was not drivable. No engine codes either. Looked at the vacuum hoses and connections under the hood - no obvious problems. Managed to set the idle a little higher (1100 rpm) and now the truck stays running and is driveable but sputters when accelerating (1100 - 2000) rpms. Anybody run into this problem or have any idea what might be causing this issue. The truck has over 600,000 km and has never had any mechanical issues until now. I would hate to scrap it but am getting frustrated.

Kevin.

I know this may sound dumb, but if it is a carb vehicle have you checked the fuel filter. They used to get clogged and have that very symptom of running rough and dieing. Once you put on a new one, fuel has an clean unopstructive path. Also on the carbs they had two AAP diaphrams that use to go bad. Can't tell you how to tell other than the rubber boots use to get torn. But that may be a start at least.

Good luck and hope I have helped, at least getting you in the right direction.

I guess I forgot to mention that the truck has the 22RE fuel injected engine but thanks for the help anyway.
