Canada brake trouble

Hay guys and girls. New to the Nation but have been looking at it for about 3 years now off and on. I have a 91 pickup ext cab 2.4 just did the rear axle seals and bearings but now the breaks are soft not sure why? Tried the back up thing and slam on the breaks a few times but no good it has drum brakes not sure if I need to adjust them or not? I did a good inspection on them and they still have a lot of life in them. Everything went back the way it was so really confused? a bit of help would be great. No toyota dealer in town so kind of on my own

Yes, you need to adjust the e-brake out until it JUST touches the drum.

The adjusters will do the rest, but it will take little while.

Otherwise, I'd say you have air in the lines. Bleed passenger side rear first, then driver side rear, then passenger side front, then driver side front, in that order.
