exhaust question

I have a 1993 Toyota Pick Up reg. cab. 22re 5sp. with 45,000 original miles. It has 1 1/2 lift in the front with new heavy duty tor. bars and 2 in, in the rear, greaseable shackels. MX6 adjustable rear shocks and air bags, Bilisten front shocks. I installed 1985 sport SR5 bucket seats, recro type, center con. ac. cc, intermit. wipers, elec windows, 2way paging alarm and remote start, alpine stereo, 250 watt. amp. and 10'' jl sub. behind the pass seat. Roll and lock t cover, rear pipe bumper with rec. front rec. warn rec. mount winch wired front and back, spray in bed liner, 3 - 100 watt dayliters and 2 hella 55 watt fog lights, centerforce 2 clutch. PLX wide band AFR kit, big bore throttle body, split duration cam, LCE 22re power package, Intake perfomace power package LCE header 2 1/2 in exhaust. My low end and torque is dead on any incline I have to drop it into 3 gear and take it up to 4500 to do 55mph and if im in 4th at 2500 rpm it wont get up to 4500 when dropped into 3rd. its dead from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm. I was told by a few 22re tunners the 2 1/2 in exhaust has to go. I dont know wether to go down to 2 in or 2 1/4. these are custom made stainless steel exhausts with free flow cats., not interested in rpms over 4500. Right now can't even think about going to camp with truck in 4wheel drive on the 200 mile trip or even 4wheeling in deep shit, snow. I really think I should go with a 2'' exhaust. ????? I just had it Dynotuned to get the timing set at the best that it can be. Im running 31x10.5x15 Dick Cepek Mud radial on 10 " wide aluminum rims. so what does any body think ??

Have you checked for ECU codes yet?

Sounds like it might be knock sensor...?

The exhaust is NOT your problem.

Also, those rims are a little wide for 10.50 tires...

Thanks already checked and no ECU codes. I went with a 2" exhaust. It did make a big change in the torque and lower RPMs. Pulls much stronger and quicker from 2000 rpms to 4500 rpms and 5th gear acceleration just running around town and the hills we have here. Will be going to camp in two weeks. 10" wide is old school, been running them on 31x10.50 for 35 yrs. I love the look even more so with the Dick Cepek wrap around side wall on the mud radial, everyone thinks they are 32x 11.50 and yet the rolling resistance and weight of 31x10.50 and the tires are running out nice and flat at 32 psi the ride is great and handles great with no side wall roll. And yes I still have to keep in mind its only a lil EFI 4 banger, I liked my Holley 390 4 bar. carb.s on my other 22r's better. Going to go and get it reDyno tested to pull up the exact numbers, stats, change when I get a chance.

unpdate

went to camp with the 2" exhaust pulling trailer and atv. Still had to grunt down into third gear to climb a few hills and to keep it at 60-65 mph but it pulled much better when going from 4th gear 2000 rpms to 3rd gear 4200 rpms.

The mpg went from 15 mpg to 18 mpg pulling the trailer and atv, that was a real nice plus.

I also had a chance to ride with my cousin in her Dodge Daytona Hemied V8 4x4 pick up, and that thing had to grunt down and let out a roar to keep it up to speed on the same hills that I was talking about.

So I guess I cant complain about my lil 4 banger, because I still luv my compact Pick ups. So till 2013 when The Tacoma gets a complete redesign, I HATE the angeled wheel well arches, and looks like the Tundra. She will do just fine, then she will become a local run around work plow truck.

It seems like 4 bangers just NEED back-pressure to make power, the high flow cats and all must have been to free flowing for low end grunt... Too bad you had to change out a custom made exhaust!
