maintenance plans

has anybody purchased 3/4/5 yr maintenance plans? Do I have to purchase it at the dealer where I purchased the vehicle? Can I get my car repaired at any dealership? I purchased my vehicle at lexus of manhattan and i"ve heard a lot of bad things about that dealership so I have second thoughts about getting the maintenance plans thru them. I called Lexus customer service and she told me that I can bring my car to any dealer for warranted repairs, but if i want the service plan i can only get it thru lexus of manhattan and can only bring it to them for scheduled maintenances. Is this true??? If i can purchase extended warranty and maintenace plans at other dealers I'd rather get it in NJ.

your best bet is to do it yourself, read the handbook and just work on teh car yourself. toyotas are like a well worn rock, doesnt take much. i havent done anything but oil and oil fiter changes for hte last 3-4 years and shes as good as ever.

well brake pads too, but engine wise, just keep the oil fresh and itll last forever.

As for service plans, neither of my dealerships have "plans". We do have menu's per scheduled maintenances. I don't see why a competant Toyota Only shop couldn't do it, but past that, I wouldn't let anyone touch it.

As for maintenance, do you have a fwd? or awd. fwd I recommend the atf at a min of 30k miles and ONLY USE T-4 from Toyota. If you're doing it yourself to save cash, don't skimp here. Oil changes are oil changes, you could probably do it yerself. If you have an AWD (you didn't mention what Lexus you have) RX 300-DO THE ATF EVERY 15K without fail... understand....that is the only way to get the trans to survive. Yeah toyotas are pretty maint free, like a VW bug. If you have any Q's, just ask

Those new maintenance plans are just a cash grab for the dealerships... just following the plan that's in your owner's manual... you can take it anywhere you want...

I hear on the radio these new commercials where they say you can personalize a maintenance plan for whatever model and year you have.... I just laugh... I guess it's tempting to those who don't do regular maintenance already.
