Lexus VS Bimmer

Hi everybody,
I'm new to Lexus community even never had a Lexus.
So my questions are:
Have anybody owned a BMW before GS models(I'm interested in 98 and up)
If so which one
What did you like the most about both cars
and last one which car tops another and in which aspects
Thanks.

I've never owned or even driven a bimmer... but I have friends that have them... they say that nothing beats the bimmer in ride quality and braking. When I first got my IS, I was pretty impressed by the smooth ride, braking power, as well as handling (good turning radius). Now, I'm pretty much used to it so it doesn't seem like anything special. I'd say the maintenance for the bimmer is much more expensive though...

A little off topic. After 4 BMW's and 2 Mercedes we ordered our fist Lexus yesterday. Went with the IS350. The car has some nice features and drove nice. Hoping our Lexus experince is a good one. One thing I didn't like is with Lexus you have to take what's available. We had to comprimise on the interior color and audio/nav system or wait 4 months for a car built to our specs. With both BMW and Benz if they couldn't locate what we wanted they ordered and we had a car in 8 weeks (sometimes a little quicker).

My uncle has a 98 BMW 5series that he let my drive. It had a great ride, acceleration was strong, and it was very quiet. I test drove a 99 GS 400 at a used car lot, with no intentions of buying, and it wasn't as fun to drive but still packed a punch. I could not tell much difference in acceleration, but the interior in the GS was much homier than the dark, cave-like interior of the Bimmer. The BMW will cost more to maintain, I can tell you that. The rest is up to you.
*coughs* get the lexus.

-Will

i think the IS300 was made to compete with the BMW 3 series, but which series does the GS300 compete against?

Does that include resale value, reliability, maintenance frequency, et...

I wouldn't be so general.

I have both a Lexus and Bmw and lets just say the BMW is the weekend cruiser but the Lexus is the wife's kid hauler, for obvious reasons.

$70,000 car with -cheap cupholders, plastic radiator, instrument pixels that burn out and leaks like a *^$% from valve cover gaskets and powersteering reservoir/ hose.- You guess which one I'm referring to. Oh!, did I mention no homelink feature...

I can be more critical since I own both

I encountered the same problem. I am used to ordering just what I want, My Benz and my Vette I had built to my spec. I just ordered an IS250AWD and as you said, in 6-8 weeks I will have to take what they can get. You would think that Lexus would try harder to compete.

thats just how toyota works, they tell the dealerships what the amount of a certain vehicle theyll be producing and take their orders, even with toyotas youd have to wait that long, if not longer.

Bimmer's drive very well, extremely sporty and responsive, while lexus is more conservative. it really depends on which BMW and lexus you are trying to compare, they have their different strengths. The new IS is very nice and competes with the new 3 series very well. My suggestion would be to test drive both cars and see which one you prefer, they behave differently.

Just sold BMW 5 series. Fun car but always having small issues and leaks 95K replaced radiator, WP, batt, Cam position sensor, Ignition switch, and more. I got tired of lack of reliability..went back to JAPAN

I owned a 5series for 6yrs. While, I loved the ride and steering and overall performance, the car had lots of issues bringing it to the shop regularly for 900.00 hits quite often. This was a private shop so dealer would hav killed me.
