Gen5 Question on ES and GS

hello all. other than 3.3 versus 3.0 engine and front wheel versus rear wheel drive, what are the other major differences that cause the GS to be priced higher? and if you were to buy a 2001 with under 50,000 miles, which is better to get the GS or the ES? thanks.

Size is probablyte biggest difference. I dont think the interior is that much bigger on teh GS but the outside does look larger.

Also the ES is more of the starter LExus, if you want to call it that. The GS is more of the touring luxury sport sedan. You stated the obvious already as far as RWD vs. RWD. the ES uses a V6 1MZ or 3MZ depending on wether it is an ES300 or 330. the GS uses the 2J I6 engine taht is in teh IS and Supra. The GS can be had with the 4.0 liter engien from teh LS also. The GS is the next step on the LExus ladder for all intents andpurposes. IF the car is for you and you plan on doing any modifications youwill probably find more aftermarket for the GS since you can get Supra dn IS parts that will probably work on it.

S~ Thanks Mate. great help and good advice. what does the "G" stand for in GS? i think the GS300 has the bigger engine and rear wheel drive. does it come in stick shift? lol. anyway, i also think they have one gen, 2nd gen, that has not changed the body style from 1998 thru 2005. is that correct? thanks bud. i appreciate your feedback dude.

You know I have never quite figured out wha the E, G, and L stand for in LExus' naming. I would theink something along the lines of Entry, grand (touring or sport) and luxury or something along those lines.

As for the year models, I believe you are right it was either 97 or 98 when the 2nd gen GS came out and ran until 05 with the new one being introduced.

I dont believe the offer a manual trans in any Lexus that I know of. Well maybe some of the original SC300's had manuals, but not many. I think in the Gen2 GS they did offer the steering wheel button shifter.

As for larger engine size that is hard to say bigger. THe ES300 and the GS300 both use a 3.0 liter engine but the ES uses a V6 and the GS uses the I6 from the Supra. TEchnically they are the same size as far as displacement is concerned but the GS will be longer since it is an inline engine.

That is all I can think of right now anyway .
