I've got a 2000 Solara, but with a new son here, I'm thinking of getting a 4 door car. Someone is selling a 95 Lexus ES 300 locally with 55,000 miles on it.
I'm wondering, what can I expect to pay for repairs, at least when compared to my Solara (or any other average Toyota)?
More than any other Toyota for sure if you plan on taking it to the dealer, labor charges will get ya everytime. However, since the ES is basically the Camry, parts won't cost you that much since you can use the Toyota branded parts instead of the Lexus branded parts. It is still a higher cost of maintenence (when needed) over your average.

hmm...so could I just take it to Toyota dealer? What about things like oil changes/brakes...stuff like that? Shouldn't be too much more should it?
If your local Toyota dealer will service Lexus vehicles, do that. Oil changes and things that are minor will cost you an arm and a leg at the Lexus dealer compared to anywhere else.
old cars with low miles, perfect. Honestly, just buy mobil 1 synthetic oil yourself and buy a 1mzfe oil filters at toyota parts stores. Then take those to a local shop. Essentially, your going to prolong the life of the lexus...(if your not a diy kinds guy). This should be suffice. As far a major services go (tranny flush, coolant flush, etc)...your toyota dealership can take care of those

Not all Toyota dealers will do that....my local Toyota won't go NEAR a Lexus vehicle
They even give me a hard time if I walk in and try to buy PARTS from them. I have to tell them I have a MKIV N/A Supra instead of telling them I have an SC3. If I tell them I have an SC3 they hassle with me, although eventually they will sell me the part, it's just really annoying.

I'll call up there and see. The guy that runs the local (well, one of the local dealers - there are about 5 toyota dealers in KC) used to be a neighbor of mine.
