Reading Engine Diagnostic Codes

Can Someone help me. I'm a newbie to Toyotas. I have a 97 ES300 that I would like to read the engine codes. I don't know where the OBD-ll connector is located and how to pull the codes. Cars I've driven in the past have allowed me to turn a screw on the ECU and the MIL light would blink the codes out. Thanks.

did you try looking under the driver's dash board... where the chang box is, but under it, as in under the dash

The screw or the paper clip thing won't work, but you can go to your auto parts store and they could possibly read the code for you. Or get one yourself, it's about 100 bucks these days.

The OBD-II connector is behind the fuse pannel on the left side of the steering wheel. You should use the scan tool to get the codes but if you need to pins to jump let me know and i can look it up for you.

Hi,

You can read the diagnostic trouble code from malfunction indicator lamp: Using suitable wiring, connect between terminals 13 (Tc) and 4 (CG) of data link connector No.3 (aka OBDII-connector, http://www.alflash.narod.ru/Learn/dlc.gif ) or by connect between terminals E1 and Tc of data link connector No.1 (under Hood, http://www.alflash.narod.ru/OBDII/Connectors1.jpg ).
Take a look the Basic codes by flashing "Check Engine-light" - http://www.alflash.narod.ru/Diagn/MILcode.pdf

HTH,
