Tow a Lexus ES300 with automatic transmission

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a 1993 Lexus ES300 to be towed behind my Class A motor home.

Before buying I want to make sure the ES300 can be towed with the 4 wheels down on the road

Seller says NO PROBLEM but I'm not sure and Lexus Canada is pretty vague

Car is a ES300 1993 with 4speed automatic transmission

Thanks

Chris

I can’t say about Lexus. I did just read mid 90’s auto Camry’s required an electric auxiary trans oil pump to keep the fluid circulating. I forget exactly where I got this info. It was a web search on towing cars. Someone wanted to drive their Camry in Neutral (engine on) and asked if that damaged the trans.

I read a lot of articles in Motor Home magazine about this subject. Some auto trans cars can be towed without a pump; some need to be restarted every xxx miles to circulate the oil, a few leave their cars engine running when towed. There are also kits to disconnect the axles.

Toyota may be vague on this for liability issues.

I would do some research; call a few places that sell the pumps (easy to install), motor home clubs, etc. There is a lot of data on the web with specific makes and models and if they can be towed safely as is. Get some definitive data. More then one person has had their trans damaged by improper towing.
