I want to be a Lexus owner - considering a 2002 GS300
Hi all,
I have been looking into buying a Lexus for my husband. He currently drives a 2001 BMW 325i sedan. It has been a great car, but it is getting up there in mileage and I would like to see him something a little more roomier (ie: and safer) due to his long commutes. At the same time I don't want him to loose the sportiness of his drive, so I don't want to go too luxury. So, I was thinking a GS would be a good choice for us. But which model? I found a 2002 GS 300 that might be promising. Is there anything quirky about this year/model that I should know about.
Get him a GS400 or GS430...the GS300 is severely underpowered and he won't enjoy it coming from a 325i. The car is heavy and has a weak engine. Get the V8. Other than that, its a nice luxury ride and the V8s have plenty of power and the handling can be made better with a few modifications.
Hey hey now. I have a GS300 and its slow In the near future I want to drop the JDM motor from a clip. Which was my plan from the begining But the V8 is the way to go, he will enjoy the power of the GS4. Good luck on the search

Haha, you know it! Your GS300 has the same 2JZ-GE as my car, and my car is slow and your car is bigger and heavier! :p
I wanted something bigger than an IS300. To me the IS300 is too similar to the 325i. Also the last time I looked at an IS300 I didn't like look of the interior.
Get him a Lexus GS 350 AWD. It has more horsepower than the BMW 325i, it gets better fuel economy and it should also be much safer on icy roads, where RWD does not historically perform well.

Stick to the GS class. THere are tons of fine examples of used GS400's out there. As rare as they are the remember the people that bought those cars new had the money to keep them maintaned and up to date. Try searching on ClubLexus.com there are always people selling their GS400's for newer GS430's or other vehicles. Gooduck!

Any model recommendations?
Thanks!
If you mean sportiness=faster and roomier +1 to what everyone said GS350 or GS400.If you mean sportiness=handling and driving feeling, I'll say you compare wrong cars...I mean 325i and GS are completely different car, one is more sporty and one is more for cruiser .... the closest you can get from lexus division in term of handling is IS 250/350 ...

Haha... every year, there would be faster car and slow is relative ... for some people M3 is fast, while for some it's just ok .... to feel better, let think this way, there always be slower cars than ours.
