SC300/400 taillight swap?

Would it require any modification to fit 97+ taillights in a 93 SC300?

You may need to widen each of the holes for the screws in order to get it to fit with ease, but this is no more involved than take a drill to each hole to make it a bit wider to accept the new screws. Otherwise it takes a bit of muscle to fit the new tail light in directly.

The other problem you will have is that your in-dash tail light failure bulb will come on and your turn signals will hyperblink.

Why would just changing the taillight housing make the indicator light come on and the turn signals to flash faster?

The 1997+ lights use wedge bulbs as opposed to incandescent bulbs from the earlier design. You will be taking 6 27w incandescent bulbs and replacing them with 5w wedge bulbs in the newer design. This causes your tail light failure module to register low resistance in the wiring due to the lesser wattage, so now your car will think you have bulbs blown out and give you the dash icon and hyperblink.

There are a few solutions to the hyperblink problem, but the most viable one is to find a tail light failure module from a 1997+ SC to go along with.

IMHO, the newer taillight design is definitely WORTH having even if you have to put up with a hyperblink. The newer tail lights look better when off, and better when on.
