The check engine light is there for a reason (you need to get the trouble code that caused the engine light to come on), go to Auto Zone and have them pull the code for you, they do it for free.
If you already have done that and you need to re-set the light, all you have to do is unplug the negative battery cable for 2 minutes then you should be ok.
If the light does come back later then you will need to know the code as this will lead you to the troubled component that needs to be replaced.
