97 Lexus lx450 oem Radio install

I have had trouble with the driver side front and rear speakers not working, took the truck to dealer and they said that the radio was the problem, so I have bought a replacement radio and amp...I'm going to try and install myself...Question, how do you remove the dash panel that holds the radio and where is the amp located. Thanks

ps...I'd like to check the door speakers, how do you remove the door panels

radio

I would start looking under the front passenger seat. Thats a pretty popular place on Toyotas for stereo amps. Is your new radio a factory unit or aftermarket. If you bought a factory unit, can you take it back? For the price of a factory unit you can get quite the aftermarket unit.

Also is the amp aftermarket?

Just a little info.....On factory Toyota's, the stock head unit doesn't really drive the speakers, it's more of a general reciever unit that performs all the functions, and then sends it to the factory amp which drives all the speakers.

On an aftermarket unit, the head unit drives all the speakers and you pretty much only need an amp for larger speakers and woofers.

You can use factory wiring to install an aftermarket head unit, but you need a schematic and some know how.

As for the door panel, look for screws under a mini pad or panel in the arm rest. Pop up the power window switch panel and there are probably screws under there. Also maybe behind the door pull panel. On some yota's, put a small screwdriver between the pivot point of the door pull and the frame of the garnish around it (top and bottom of the pivot point), and that should release the panel, if theres not already a screw holding that garnish too. Look for screws along the bottom of the door panel behind a rubber trim piece. And otherwise it's probably got some plastic pins that are holding it to the inner door frame too. More: There might be screws that are accessed through holes in the arm rest, and you'll also have to lift up to get the window wiper clear after all the fasteners are released

Good luck

Thanks for the help...I bought a used stock radio and amp off of ebay for 75.00. I installed the radio and the driver side speakers are working better, but still not great, so I will try and find the amp location and do the swap...see if that helps. Thanks again for the info!
