new stering pump still hard to ster

i recently started having problems with my power stering in my 1996 lexus es300. could hardly turn a corner. took it to my machnic and they put in a new power stering pump. took them about 4 hrs, but stering only improved slightly. when i told them i was told i had to break it in. my comment was why should any thing new be broken in. it was the first one they did. i got about 600 miles on it and it has got better. it still hangs up, but not as bad

my question is do you have to break in a new power stering pump.

should the celinoide that was on the pump be the problem, it was not replaced.
thanks

Do you mean solenoid?

Try turning the steering wheel lock to lock a few times to get any air out of the system. Then check the power steering fluid quantity.

The problem might be in pump bypass valve or the steering rack actuator. Also determine if the steering column or U-joint at the bottom is binding.

If the problem was the pump, once replaced and system bleed of air your steering would be back to normal. The pump should not require breaking in, never heard of this.

thank you for advise. fluid is ok. tuned wheel lock to lock several times and seems to be alittle better. its not like it was before it went bad.
