Im not sure they have enough demand to do that, from what i know lexus does not ever put turbos or superchargers on there cars so it might be hard to beat the euro trash.
So far there is the L-Tuned GS, which is equivalent to the sport package on a 5 series, i.e. cosmetic plus suspension mods, bigger wheels, better tires. Give Toyota's poor (non-exisitent) track record of factory "tuner version" cars (like the ultra lame Corolla "Type S", my answer is don't hold your breath. If you want a GS with extra oomph, best to look to the aftermarket. There are some CRAZY ones already out there.

Hello does anybody know if Lexus will challenge the BMW M5 with a high performance version of the Lexus GS430?
The IS430, if it ever comes to North America would be a nice BMW M5 competitor (read: ass whooper!)

The GS430 is a very quick car but i dont think it can hang with M5's just yet. It will need some aftermarket support. There is a TRD edition with 18" rims, TRD Exhaust, TRD coil overs, TRD grill, and a few other things along with the l-tuned edition which someone already covered. Im not sure what the M5 runs but i know for a fact that the 430 runs the 1/4 mile in 13.9@103mph, 0-60=5.8 sec, 70-0mph=108ft, top speed=150mph govner limited.
We must remember that the M5 has 400HP that is one hundred more than the GS430...So to go head to head against the M5, Lexus will have to pump up that engine close to that figure.I think that the M5 does 0-60 in about 4.8 sec.
The GS430 competes very well against the BMW 540i in acceleration they are almost dead even in braking i think the GS430 is slightly better and in Top Speed the GS430 is slightly faster. The BMW 540 is better in handling but because of that the GS430 has a smoother ride specially in bad roads.
If toyota wanted they could do a super high performance GS430 to go against the M5.
Or a High performance IS to compete against the M3 that also would be very intresting..
I am hearing rumors that Lexus is working on a IS430 that would have a supercharged 400HP engine. If that is true that car would blow by either an M3 or an M5....We will have to wait a see if that is going to happen i hope so!!!!!

Do a search on the forum. CamryRR posted specs to the IS430 with pics. It is as fast as the MKIV Supra TT and obviously quite bigger. That is why I said that it will compete with the M5. It does have 400HP. Now I only hope that it comes to North America.

they will probably never come out with that car here and if they do it will be like a special custum order. They should just plop a 2jzgte in a IS300 and we will be happy. The performance of the IS430 was close to 0-60 in 4.8 secs so it kills both the M5 and M3 ,when it comes to aftermarket parts its hard to beat the Altezza that can probably so moded it would make a M3 look cheap.
BMW is coming strong in its new 5 series for 04 with new engines to the line.A 3.0 liter inline 6 with twin turbo good for 380HP and a V10 for the next M5 with about 500HP.And the front structure of the 5 series is going to be aluminum...
I hope that when the next generation GS comes in 04 it will be good enough to compete against the new 5.I will like to see in the next generation GS more powerfull engines, electronic damping available and more use of aluminum in the car specially in the suspension components, if lexus does that the car is going to be fine to battle the BMW if not it will not have any chance agaisnt the 5 series....
