Used RX300

Hello All,

I'm brand spank'n new to your club. I had a couple of quick questions for you guys. I want to by my girlfriend a used RX300 for her birthday. I want to get her an SUV because she's kinda short and I want her in a 4WD vehicle.

So with that said:

1) Are there any model years I should stay away from?
2) Are there any major known problems with this SUV?
3) Are you happy with your RX300? Would you buy another one?

Thanks

You might wanna look at the highlander, they're both Camry platform based and both have 3.0 V6 (option on highlander) unless your looking at the RX330. Lexus is all about image. Highlander is prolly little less luxurious, but haven't drove one.

Um... I don't get the short thing... I'm short... doesn't mean I need to drive a car that's higher up. Although for safety reasons... an SUV is definitely better... unless she drives like me and might flip the darn thing while doing a corner too fast...
The RX300... is kind of nice I guess.. nothing too special. Although for a petite girl... is a good choice over the clunkier toyota SUV's... don't go for the RAV4... It also depends on your price range too. But overall... I'd love the RX as a winter beater

Always aviod the first year of each new generation.

I believe the first RX300 came out in1999.

It's a very reliable vehicle, just don't forget to do regular oil change and regular maintenance and it'll be fine.

Rx300 opinion

Speaking from first hand experience I can tell you the Rx300 is a great vehicle.

The first year production is in fact 1999.
The only things I can see being a common glitch on first year production vehicles is the rear tailgate shocks (slow opening), and the front struts in cold temperatures seam to bottom out.

These two items I know for a fact were dealt with in the '00 and newer production run...

One other item, do some research on the size of the fuel tank on the earlier rx300 it is surprisingly small, infact, they enlarged it in 2001 (I believe) due to customer complaints. The small tank (65 litres)combined with fuel reserve light coming on too early (12-15 litres left in tank) results in relatively short distance on full tank (my case 380km until reserve lights on).

-Oh, another thing, poor turning ratio.

Other than the above (minor issues) its a solid, reliable and well built vehicle.

Toyota relies on previous reliabilty history of their vehicles to develope their product line, which results in better vehicle every year....

I am not a fan of first year production vehicles yet, purchased a '99 rx300 go figure.... No regrets, and yes I would do it all over again.

Cheers,

Fern
